Position Overview:

The Paralegal will be responsible for assisting in legal and real estate correspondence and performing a wide variety of complex, confidential business. This is a full time position, reports to the Chief Financial Officer and has no supervisory responsibility. For more information regarding this position, contact Jordan at 641-394-6789.

General Duties and Functions:

  • Be prompt and timely for all assigned shifts, schedules and projects
  • Be aware of and familiar with the Company Handbook and abide by the employment policies and regulations
  • Teach, coach and work with team in a constructive manner
  • Consistently keep desk area clean and organized to promote professionalism and efficiency
  • Actively participate in any recommended or mandatory trainings
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, management,  internal and external customers
  • Additional duties as assigned by management, as this job description is non-exhaustive
  • Willingness to perform duties outside normal scope of work (i.e. work outside normal hours)

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Maintain all legal and permanent files kept on site (including all organizational files and property files)
  • Maintain an electronic filing database
  • Research a wide variety of requested items (i.e. real estate law, legal research, business transactions, etc.)
  • Review Tenant Lease Agreements, Aggregate Lease, Royalty Agreements and other various contracts
  • Vendor and operational contract reviews
  • Broad knowledge of various legal disciplines, including corporate law, tax law, litigation, bankruptcy, workers’ compensation, real property, unclaimed property, business sales and mergers, etc. for federal, multi-state and local jurisdictions
  • Involvement in business acquisitions, sales and mergers, must be able to establish, implement and oversee a timeline matrix
  • Mechanic lien process-timeline. Draft and send notices and track progress
  • Coordinate with credit and collections department
  • Small claim flings and garnishments
  • Obtain and correlate information for settlement statements for commercial and agriculture real estate closings, interface with attorneys, courthouse, executive team, employees and third parties
  • Preparing documentation and record searching’s for multiple counties and/or states
  • Establish follow up systems for company lease renewals, annual corporate reports, etc.
  • Review title opinion letters, real estate acquisition, sale agreements, title insurance policies, abstracts, closing statements and assist attorneys with closings
  • Cross-train with applicable positions

Position Requirements:

  • Consent to authorization of a pre-employment background check
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
  • Minimum 2 years of paralegal experience
  • Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail
  • Strong negotiation stills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be an excellent communicator who seamlessly interfaces among law professionals, executive team, employees and external parties
  • Effective time management skills with a strong insistence to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook Calendars, PowerPoint)
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters
  • Experience with legal terminology and awareness of local, state and federal filings
  • Integral team player and problem solver supporting job functions outside customary job duties
  • Understand instructions from supervisory positions, both written and verbal
  • Basic mathematical skills (i.e. Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide)
  • Possess excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • BA degree or higher
